Same thing already happened:
I subscribed for the first time on August 27, 2005
Last message I received was on October 10, 2006
I subscribed again on November 25, 2006.
And now, last message I received is dated May 23.
I re-subscribed now.

write messages to the list for some period of time?
No. There are I think 2 reasons why you can get unsubscribed:
1: turn your out of office reply on for this list
2: mail to your account keeps bouncing
