It turns out that maintaining the fixes branch is quite heavy and frustrating at the same time, because the code is in continuous evolution, and many fixes can't be applied, because the source has been changed in the meantime. So there's a lot of fruitless work. Attempt to apply a fix, verify that it can't be applied, investigate why, and discover that it should be applied on top of something which is still in progress, not yet stable, not yet finished, etc. IOW, not suitable for a stable branch.

Very wisely, Felipe suggested that instead of trying and apply all fixes and/or enhancements which appear reasonable, we should concentrate on what's actually needed.

User requests are therefore welcome. If possible (i.e. if fixes can be either directly applied or backported with a reasonable confidence) they'll be honored.
