I am posting this message for Don Hutcheson, creator of the HCT target:

Software developers are freely encouraged to support the HCT target. There
is no license fee and you don't need permission to write supporting
software, however note that the target design itself is copyrighted.

There is a developer kit available with or without an actual film or paper
target. The non-target kit is free and contains a sample RGB scan file. Kits
with targets are priced according to target size, but HCT targets are
hand-measured and not cheap! Anyone who needs a kit please contact me
off-list.

The main difference between the HCT and the IT8.7 is layout (29 x 22) and
how you determine which patches are valid (some are not.) The header of the
HCT reference file contains all data necessary to determine the layout and
valid patches of the target.

In most respects the reference file follows the same format as the IT8
reference file, with some additional data fields.

HCT reference files are created in Microsoft Excel on a Mac and saved in
tab-delimited text format with no extension. Profiling software must be able
to read tab-delimited Excel text files correctly.

You can download actual HCT reference files at
http://www.hutchcolor.com/HCT_data.htm. Note that if you download an HCT reference
file to a PC you may need to add the '.txt' extension for some software to
recognize it.

Free developer support (within reason) is available from Hutcheson
Consulting in the form of e-mail and phone support (when available) as well
as beta software testing. We recommend that all new or modified software
that utilizes the HCT should be submitted for final testing prior to
commercialization.

For the latest information about compatible software, user instructions,
examples, reference files, FAQs and more go to:
http://www.hutchcolor.com/hct.htm

Regards,

Don
