Hi,
I am afraid you are referring to icSigDeviceMfgDescTag and
icSigDeviceModelDescTag tags. The fields in the header
are actually *unused* by most CMM. They comes from old
versions of ICC spec, and contains a signature of the profiler
who generates them or, often, just a 0.
In fact, lcms generated profiles does contain 'lcms' and 0, and
they work for most systems, including Corel (AFAIK)
Changing the icSigDeviceMfgDescTag and icSigDeviceModelDescTag
is not trivial anyway.
Regards
Marti.

Subject: [Lcms-user] profile editor
Hello Marti!
My wish was not to be able to edit each tag possible but only those
which have descriptive character. This would be only the tags in the
header and there only the following:
Byte 8...11 Profile version number
Byte 12...15 Profile/Device class signature
Byte 24...35 Date and time this profile was first created
Byte 48...51 Device manufacturer of the device for which
this profile is created
Byte 52...55 Device model of the device for which this
profile is created
Byte 56...63 Device attributes unique to the particular
device setup such as media type
Byte 80...83 Profile creator signature
Byte 84...99 Profile ID
and somewhere there should be a range for any notes, but I do not
remember where in the ICC spec.
Of course it would not make sense to edit all tags for example the
PCS-Tag or the color space data etc.
I rewrite my original posting to make clear for which purpose I want
this feature:
......
1.)
If you select ICC-profiles in Corel-Draw-Suite, you do this only by the
two tags "device" and "device-description". These tags are optional by
ICC-specs. Profiles not containing these tags cannot be shown in Corel
and therefore cannot be selected. Corel knows about this problem since
version 9 and does not change anything!
2.)
Often I have generated profiles and some days later, I discovered, that
the profile description and profile name was not so clearly
distinguishable from other profiles for similar purpose, than I would
have wanted. So I should edit the profile description tag.
My question:
Is it possible to use parts of the LCMS to do this editing (without
having to learn to program something)?
Do you know a tool, which can do the job on a very easy way? Til now I
only got the tip for the following tool:
http://www.tlbtlb.com/links/linkdown.html
But this can only edit the profile description tag.
BTW: I have a profiling software, which came with my Agfa Arcus scanner.
It is named Agfa Color Tune.
I can open profiles with it and change all these tags I want! But after
applying these changes I had to learn that the profiles did not work any
more: Photshop told me, the profile would not be spec.-conform and
refused to load it. Corel (of course...) did load it and showed on the
monitor any colors as long as they are blue. ;-)
So it is obviously that Agfa Color Tune sets the pointers to wrong
adresses after doing the tag editing.
Sorry that I cannot protest at Agfa, because they have terminated all
their activities in the scanner and colormanagement segment about 1 year
ago.
I see, a profile tag editor is possible but not trivial!
Have a nice and succesfull day!
