Right.  In fact for years and years the ImageMagick package also
discarded the original image resolution and applied 72 instead.  It
sounds like this lcms utility has a bug.

There is the option to use GraphicsMagick or the latest ImageMagick to
do the profile work since these will preserve the original resolution.

An additional factor with JPEG is that Adobe software stores
resolution in their own proprietary profile and this can result in two
conflicting resolution values in the same file.
