Can LCMS be used to either generate or measure color strips for use with that device?
No, it doesn't directly, as far as I know. I use this device to create the profiles for our printers and our press with the help of Logos (or better Gretags) Profilemaker.
But I also use it to create and control the separations for spotcolors printed in 4C. Well, at least I'm going to, when I find the time to complete the app :)
Creation of custom strips is an easy task following the documentation found at xrites site: http://www.xrite.com/support_doc.aspx?part=274&SupportID=700
You'll find other docs like the one about controlling the DTP41 via serial interface...
The steps might be: creating the strip (postscript is the easiest way), printing, reading with the dtp41, using data (with lcms) to create whatever. I'm not very much into creating profiles with lcms, this will be a holydays job for me ;) Try the python interface, maybe my tcl interface or whatever fits your needs to create your own scripts :)
