I'm not very familiar with compiling source code either, but my expectation is that getting the build environment together, compiling lcms and dealing with any problems that pop up along the way will take more than a couple hours.

The only compiler I've used on Windows is Visual Studio from Microsoft. It has a pretty simple install, but is rather expensive. I'm not sure what's freely available for Windows, but I'm assuming the installation will not be straight forward. Now if Windows came with a build environment like some other OS's, this step wouldn't be necessary. Once you have your build environment, compiling lcms should go smoothly with just a few commands.

Perhaps the functionality you're looking for exists in an application already. If you're not interested in programming, then I think you're also not interested in the lcms libraries or compiling them. What would you like to do with lcms? If you go to the FAQ's, you'll find:

Q: I'm not a programmer after all. Can I benefit from little cms?
   A:

Even if you are not a programmer, but still interested in
colorimetry, you can download the utility programs
   <http://www.littlecms.com/newutils.htm> to experiment with profiles.
You will see how much images can change when profiles are in play.
Of course, programmers are also welcome ;)

Subject: [Lcms-user] compiling lcms

A real newbie here. I've never used a mailing list before and don't know how to reply to messages already posted.
Someone asked "how do I compile lcms for windows?" The reply was "what compiler?" I'd like to ask the same question but add that I've never compiled software before but would really like to compile the latest lcms. I would be prepared to download software and spend a couple of hours on it just for this one app. Is this a reasonable expectation or would you say to forget the whole thing if I've no idea about compiling software at all?

In other words, I don't have an interest in programming or compiling in general, but if it was just a case of downloading some app and typing "build" or similar I would have a go. Any advice please. Also, how will I apply to this message that I'm sending from my email program?
Many thanks for any advice.
