Hi Marti and others,

I have a problem regarding colour reproduction and need (ok, want, would
like,...) some assistance:

Materials / Hardware / Software:
HP 7960 inkjet printer
Fuji microporous inkjet paper
X-Rite DTP41 spectrophotometer
GretagMacbeth Profilemaker 5
lcms 1.14, beta 3 (yes, it works fine)

Procedure:
I have created an image file (in Adobe 98 colour space) containing a range
of colours which can be well reproduced by most inkjet printing systems.

When I convert this file to the HP7960 colourspace, using relative
colorimetry, the Lab values (displayed by Photoshop or lcms) stay roughly
the same.
Of course, this is what we would expect.

YET, Lab measurements of the actual print reveal quite some differences to
the values displayed in Photoshop.
This was also to be expected, because paper white is not 100,0,0 and paper
black is not 0,0,0.

Question:
How can I obtain an approximation of the actual Lab values measured?
Preferably using the ICC profile only?

I tried many things already, but just don't grasp it, yet...

Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide!

Greetings,
Auke Nauta
