My understanding from talking to some of the HP engineers about this
is that the pale cyan and pale magenta are generated for you at rather
a low level in the writing engine. The lowest level you can send data
is native CMYK.

I think the best solution for printers with a RIP is to send CMYK
postscript you generate yourself.
