Hello Marti, Graeme and list

As aUser High-End-Solutions, which are calculating separation preserving devicelink-profiles, it is normal to wait often several minutes, till the devicelink is calculated.

So, things like search algorithms can may be really difficult...

Actually, this technology is used for high-end profing solutions and for repurposing CMYK-files for different printing conditions.

As used for digital proofing, pure black doesnt stay pure. Small amounts of CMY are added for the best colorimetricly match. As modern photoprinters are using an additional grey-ink, the problem of "peppering" or unwanted big black dots can be avoided. For photoprinters without grey-ink, it is better to use traditional ICC-separation, with carefully calculated black generation, like Graeme has described. In proofing, you donīt need setting an inklimit, this is done during linearisation.

generating devicelink-profiles for repurposing of CMYK-files, a function for preserving pure-black is necessary. Same as for Inklimit. The Inklimit is specified by the user for the devicelink-creation. It is not necessary to read it from the output-profile.

The calculation of the Ink-limit can be integrated in the search-function for finding the right CMYK-combinations in the target profile.

If the amount of Ink for an given CMYK-combination is to high, black is slightly increased and new CMY-colors are searched, for mapping to the Lab-reference.

A question to Graeme:
Does Argyll provide the possibility of preserving separations ?

As I read the documentation, I understand that Argyll provides only the preserving of pure black. Is this right ?
