I can only think of one situation where what you are doing would make sense. If you have one of the relatively new monitors that are capable of displaying Adobe RGB, this could be an interesting way of directly comparing the appearance of an image in sRGB and Adobe RGB, to compare the two. Normally proofing is used to simulate a smaller gamut device, such as a printer, on a larger gamut device, such as a monitor.
