LCMS 2.0 is on everybody's mind now, but let me go back to the basics
just one moment...

Imaging you have a monochrome printer.
And for each media supported, first thing you do is to generate a
linearized dither matrix, so that a linear contone ramp will generate
linear output (in L*, or lightness, or Ciecam's J, or Density,...
that's a different topic). That means that the same color transform
will be valid for all medias, provided they are used with the
appropriate dither matrix, won't it? It seems so simple, that I think
I am missing something... Or maybe I am just shifting tasks, from the
transform to the dither...?

PS: I know, in the different rendering intents you can provide more
features, but I am now thinking on a simple sRGB to K, saturation mode
table, that can be embedded in the printer...
