You can do that, or you can create a plug-in that intercepts  
matrix-shaper pipelines and apply the slope limiting. I would try the  
optimization or the interpolation plug-in types. If you use  
interpolation you can slope limit every single 1D table-based curve.

Keeps in mind many people prefer to *not* slope limit, specially on  
low gamma spaces.
