This is exactly the reason that motivated me to think: it would be advisable
to reserve a "private" OID that anybody can use without need to apply for
one.
Sure, the OID space is theoretically unlimited and it does cost nothing, but
a private OID would be easier.

Not me. Everyone thinks their network/application is private and will never
ever have to interface/connect with another network or servers/applications on
another network. And everyone is wrong.
Acquiring a real OID is both free and easy, and the OID space is
nearly limitless (unlike IP4). Thus a 'private' OID space is unwarranted.
