hi dieter!!!

thanks for the reply. i went to the web2ldap site, and played with the app
for a sec. i was amazed/pleased to see that i was almost immeadiately able
to get information from the umich ldap server for a test dept/affiliation.

however, i can't figure out how to add the sub filter to the http request
that i have for the umich directory services.

the following actually works, in returning a given person.. i'd like to be
able to do something similar and return the list of faculty for a given
dept..

browser (umich)
http://directory.umich.edu//ldapweb-bin/url?ldap:///ou=People,dc=umich,dc=ed
u

in the web2ldap test, i added the "Urban Planning - Faculty" to the dept
text area. i was able to see >>>"sub search with filter "(ou=*Urban
Planning - Faculty*)""<<< which returned the 248 entries that i was
expecting....

is there some way of being able to use/implement the browser url to be able
to access the dept information/listings...

as you can see, i'm seriously new to ldap.. and in fact, this is a very
small exercise to get the information. in fact, it looks like the umich site
is the only site where i'd even need to hit a ldap server...

thanks

-bruce

ldap.itd.umich.edu does not allow anonymous search below the ou=groups
branch.
You should probabley try a decent ldap browser, web2ldap, JXplorer or
similar.
OpenLDAP provides some basic information on how to access a directory,
http://www.openldap.org
