I think in most places LDAP is used for very similar purposes. 1.) An authorization source; as well as some authentication for lame apps & clients that don't support things like Kerberos. This includes being an NSS provider. 2.) White pages 3.) SMTP, DHCP, and DNS configuration backend 4.) Group backend for various services like OpenNMS, Wildfire (XMPP) and RADIUS; this is similar to #1. 5.) To store user preferences / profiles for applications like Horde or an Intranet. OpenLDAP's back-sql/back-meta, etc... also allow it to be used as a way to federate datasources. One example is using back-sql to provide LDAP access to address book like data stored in a traditional database: http://docs.opengroupware.org/Members/whitemice/OGo-Back-SQL/ http://docs.opengroupware.org/Members/mkbrown/Misc/back-sql/back-sql-howto/view See also: http://www.whitemiceconsulting.com/node/30 --- You are currently subscribed to [email protected] as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word UNSUBSCRIBE as the SUBJECT of the message.
