Hello. Our organization has been making heavy use of ldap database to manage a lot of contacts (> 4000) and we have a task to create a printable directory of all these contacts. The directory must have the corporate VI and a lot of design details, so a design software is really necessary.
I wish to prepare a list of ldap-compatible design software so that I can discuss with designers on how we can do this task easier. By LDAP-compatible I mean the design software (Desktop Publishing software) should be able to connect to ldap server as external data source and use these data directly in the design (this feature is often called "mail merge" in openoffice and MS Office). I already confirmed OpenOffice is LDAP-compatible, but not very well compatible (e.g. cannot read jpegPhoto and any other openldap attribute not supported by Mozilla). So what about other design software? Would be very much useful if someone has such a list on the Internet. Can Indesign be used for this?
