Hi Steve,

The attribute 'c' falls under the objectClass 'country'. So you
would need to add that in your ldif file.
You get the error "ldapmodify: Object class violation (65)
additional info: attribute 'c' not allowed" because the objectClass for
'c' is not included in the ldif file.

Subject: [ldap] Re: Custom Schema for host information.

Hi,

I've been pulling my hair out for the past week or so, and I'm
struggling to find a publicly available LDAP schema that I can snag for
recording some basic asset tracking information about hosts that we have
in our data centre. Things like the serialNumber, owner, description,
macAddress, country....

I see some of these are already defined, like country is 'c' in the
core.schema, that comes with openLDAP.

Firstly I'm having trouble trying to add in a 'c' entry for a ou=Hosts
entry. Do I have to use some special magic?

dn: cn=host123,ou=Hosts,dc=europe,dc=mycompany,dc=com
objectClass: top
objectClass: ipHost
objectClass: device
ipHostNumber: 10.111.222.200
cn: host123
c: gb

But I get the message back

ldapmodify: Object class violation (65)
additional info: attribute 'c' not allowed

Secondly, I'm hoping to grab things like serialNumber and owner from a
ready-made schema... or do I need to cook my own? In which case should I
apply for an OID?

There will probably be other things like disk LUN information, SLA, O/S
Version, Build/Accepted.

Many thanks,

Steve
