Hi Dan, Adding a new disk volume to your control domain* does _not_ require a reboot of the domain for it to take effect. And since other VIO devices (i.e. network & console) exported by the control domain are automatically notified about guest domains coming & going, the end result is that new guest domains can be completely configured and unconfigured without ever having to reboot the control domain.
Additionally, if for any reason you do ever need to reboot your control domain, you do not need to take any of your guest domains down; that's another key benefit of being able to reboot the control domain without powercycling the system. Their virtual I/O devices will stall during the reboot, but will pick right up after the control domain starts the relevant VIO server modules. -Eric * This discussion applies equally to any service domain, i.e. any domain that's exporting virtual I/O (VIO) services -- This message was posted from opensolaris.org
