Hi Ted,

Currently, you can not assign a PCI-E/PCI-X slot directly to a guest domain. We
can only virtualize network ports and storage targets (SAN LUNs and DASD) to
guest domains. Unfortunately, that does not include tape devices. However,
depending on the type of system you have, it's possible to create a split PCI
configuration where you assign a PCI-E leaf to a guest domain, turning it into
an I/O domain.. basically it owns that part of the PCI-E bus. The limitation
there is that at the moment, that would only include the T2000 and it has a
limited number of PCI-E/PCI-X slots. If you were to split a T2000, you would
end up with one I/O domain that has a single PCI-E slot, while the other would
have the remaining PCI-E/PCI-X slots. This also creates the problem of boot
storage as you would have an older T2000 with a SAS card in a PCI-X slot or a
newer T2000 with the SAS controller on the mainboard. That controller can not
be split, so you would need to figure
out bootable storage for the second I/O domain. Altogether, not a great
solution at this time when you need direct access to a HBA or a SAN device.
However, in the future with features such as Hybrid I/O, this will change.

Subject: [ldoms-discuss] Backup media server in LDOM

Hi

Trying to consolidate backup applications on a CMT server. I would like to
understand if anyone has tried to deploy a Veritas Netbackup media server
successfully in a guest LDOM. If so what kind of performance are you obtaining?

The question is around FC LTO-3 support on a Sun L500.

Regards

Ted
