of course when host is down you cannot really use ldm migrate-domain any more

please check this link
http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/download/Community+Group+ldoms/files/introtoldoms4usenix.pdf
you will need ldom's vdsik on share storage
you need to dump the ldom configuration to xml
you will need to use xml on 2nd host to import the ldom

regards

Thanks for the details on configuring Ldoms in osc. We are not in a position to use any cluster software, hence I was looking for a tool that can move guest domain.

You mentioned "Even if you do not use osc You will understand how to setup ldom for migration even if one hoSt is down..."

Do you mean migration using "ldm migrate-domain ..." is possible even when source physical host is down. Could you elaborate please.

    It seems that key lines:
1)vdisk need to be on share storage

2)Configure Logical Domains to Reset for Control Domain Failures

3)there are other requirement on OS and arch between two hosts

Appreciate your advise. I am looking for the ability to manually
bring up guest domains on another host, within few minutes, when
the source host (T5440) goes unavailable for any reason. I did
go through the notes on ldom warm / cold migration. But, I
cannot see how the migration tool can be used when the source
host is unavailable. Please advise if you can think of another
approach to achieve this. Thanks for your directions.

If the ldom is hosted on share storage then afaik even the 1st
    host is unavailable
One can bring up the ldom on the 2nd host
This is how ha ldom work or ha app work
Please read the Docs on oracle solaris cluster agent for ldom,
Even if you do not use osc You will understand how to setup ldom
for migration even if one hoSt is down
