Charles, If you want to restrict edits to registered users only, it's a two-line change in your LocalSettings.php file. Alternatively, if you want to grant edit access to only people you specifically approve, you can create a new "group" in mediawiki, give edit rights to only members of that group, and then you manually add new users that you approve to that group. That's a little more complex, but probably only 20 minutes.
It looks like the MediaWiki developers are working on a captcha implementation, but it's not available yet. I could help you implement one of the first two approaches if you want. -dallan > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Charles Fry > Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2006 9:20 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [Ldsoss] wiki volunteers? > > Greetings, > > As those of you who revert spam in our wiki know, there are > plenty of spambots registering and making unwanted changes. > > I don't have time to do anything proactive to deal with this, > but if anyone is interested in volunteering some time to > either put some access control in place in MediaWiki, or to > migrate us to another wiki system that has more fine-grained > access control, that would be great. :-) > > In my opinion, the ideal final wiki state would be one where > only those explicitely granted access could edit the wiki. > > anyway, > Charles > > -- > This will never > Come to pass > A back-seat > Driver > Out of gas > Burma-Shave > http://burma-shave.org/jingles/1960/this_will_never > _______________________________________________ > Ldsoss mailing list > [email protected] > http://lists.ldsoss.org/mailman/listinfo/ldsoss > _______________________________________________ Ldsoss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ldsoss.org/mailman/listinfo/ldsoss
