[Ldsoss] Open source or free diary/journal software recommendation

I'm wondering if anyone could recommend any sort of free journal or diary program that would run on Windows?  I'm a linux hobbyist and I'm more familiar with Windows at this point. I am working on changing that so for now, I'd need a Windows app.  The same app that could run on linux would be good.  The only requirement I'd like the program to have is you could create "profiles" or different users and have the option to put a password on each account/profile/user name.

I'm googling right now and I'm finding a lot of free services where you'd have to have an internet connection to make an entry. I'd actually want to install the app and run it locally.  The other results I'm getting are time trial shareware etc.  Seems like that by now there should be something like this that was released that was public domain or open source.

Any suggestions?
