Among a zillion other things (I do work at a gov't research lab -- which is still hiring, btw), I've done some Blackberry R&D. The Blackberry is a pretty closed architecture.
<snip> I did some blackberry development for updating my address book on Exchange with the PIN numbers of everyone in my group that had a BB as well. The issues I found were that there are several sets of documentation, e.g. they have some older documentation talking about how to interact with the PIM system on the device, but they have moved away from that to using the J2ME stuff for pretty much everything. It was a little confusing at first. The development environment needed some tweaks to get it to work with a newer JDK, but the emulator was invaluable to say the least.
