That was funny. What I do, if I really want to give the user some feedback is built in a series if dots ................... one for each statement or iteration of a loop. Or something along the lines of ./configure: Contacting remote server...... success Logging in.................... success Downloading files............. success Then again, well written error messages could eliminate all this.
