Discussions of theory are nice, but they need to be grounded in the facts.
Here are some facts.

I can connect to this ftp server. *.txt files download correctly as text.
*.bin files download correctly as binary. *.img and *.ima files try to
download as text. I may have been wrong about *why* this occurs, but it is
clear that it *does* occur (using Netscape 4.7 on Win 95).
So ... even if the problem is in browser settings ... which of you really
wants to spend time on the leaf-user list explaining again and again to
newcomers that they have to change their browser settings to use the
unconventional file extensions some of us chose? And that people who use the
http option either have to change browser or operating system?
