As I write this, I'm finishing up a fresh compile - with proper and
hopefully functioning patches - of Linux Kernel 2.2.18 for LRP. Pertinent
info follows:
Base: "Vanilla" 2.2.18 source, with applied patches and default configs
courtesy of Charles Steinkuehler's kernel archive. As a note, there were
one or two failed patches, the one that I can recall was the raidfix
patch, as that appears to have been corrected in 2.2.18 - patch was
already applied.
Note that at present, I don't have the time or the hardware to any of
this. All of the USB Ethernet devices are considered experimental at this
stage, as well. I can't even confirm that this kernel can boot, much less
route. If anyone wants to test it out, please do and let me know. I'm
hoping that in the near future I'll be able to test it - at least for
boot, routing, and possibly USB - but until Christmas is gone, time is at
a premium.
New support:
Xpeed X200/X300 DSL PCI Cards - I know that a few people have asked about
PCI DSL card support recently, and it's listed as new in 2.2.18, so here
it is.
Cyclades PC300 modules with full support (X.25/SyncPPP/HDLC/Frame Relay)
Support for older Tulip-based cards - old_tulip.o is the module, and
Linksys cards are specifically mentioned as cards that aren't supported
by the new tulip.o module, so...
USB Support!!! (Untested, and I threw the works at it to be safe, so
there's modules for EVERYTHING, including stuff you probably shouldn't
use, like Handspring Visor support.) I'm VERY interested in the results of
this, as a friend of mine is getting DSL soon, but his DSL provider won't
provide him with anything other than a USB DSL Modem for some strange
reason. Any info on how it works - if at all - would be greatly
appreciated.
A few new SCSI and NIC drivers - pretty much anything that Charles'
default configuration script didn't have selected, I compiled as a module.
I will be posting the kernel tarball in the next hour or two to:
http://www.digivill.net/~wolfstar/
There's nothing else there, so if you get an empty directory, don't be
overly surprised; it's just not there yet. I'm also looking for a home for
the tarball, as I have other plans to use that webspace, so if anyone's
willing... =)
