I'm looking to do this as well, but I plan on using IPSec instead of
PPP/ssh. Please be aware that a PPP/ssh link will not degrade well if you
start loosing packets...the PPP layer and the TCP layer under ssh *both* try
to account for dropped/mangled packets, and can wind up interfering with
each other in bad ways. IPSec is designed to work with 'lossy' networks,
and takes care of dropped/mangled packets cleanly. Note that as long as
your link is clean, PPP/ssh should work fine...
