Depends, I would personaly only use a Hardware RAID card such as Adaptec, Promise, or High Point (built into Abit motherboards), ATA RAID, but all three provide only BINARY drivers for a few name brand Linux Distros. If you can live with that then any three would great under Linux, but appears that RAID drivers are not provided as source like standard SCSI controllers are. (And I've asked Adaptec about that and there response was something about competators seeing their code)
Of course you can use software RAID built into most Linux distro's but I know of no external arrays for ATA since your limited to two devices per channe, and about 4 channels per motherboard (on certain brands) and typically a Full Tower case can handle 4 to 8 IDE hard disks (with the monster 160GB ATA hard disks) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Newmiller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "LEAF Development" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, November 30, 2001 5:20 PM Subject: Re: [Leaf-devel] Redundant Array of *Inexpensive* Disks (RAID)... > On Fri, 30 Nov 2001, David Douthitt wrote: > > > I'm starting to accumulate 400-600M hard drives...
