You can mix versions of IPSec as long as you're not trying to use new
features that are only in a later version (like compression or
something).  You should be able to migrate your existing IPSec settings
from Dachstein to Bering by simply copying the ipsec.conf and
ipsec.secrets files.  You can continue to interoperate with any
compatible IPSec implementation, including the FreeS/WAN IPSec from
Dachstein.
