Peter - if you don't want to build a dev env for glibc2.1, then have a squiz at www.wix.net.nz/LEAF - it discusses converting LEAF to glibc 2.2. I use the packages there with LVS, and it works fine (I did, as Lynn points out, have to recompile the kernel as well).
