Summary: dhclient/networking starting too soon

Initial Comment:
Hi,

I just installed Bering 1.1 on an old laptop (dell lattitude
150Mhz w/ 40mb RAM), and I love it! There's one thing I
can't figure out though... (well, two actually)... I can't get
dhclient to start automatically, I have to drop out of the
menu to a prompt and type "/etc/init.d/networking
restart" before it will fetch an address. (I had to remove
the pump package and use dhclient instead, because
pump would not work at all for me).
If I type "/etc/init.d/networking start", I get an error
saying that eth0 and eth1 are already initialized, but no
addresses, so I have to use "restart". Is there any
command on here that will show me something similar
to ifconfig?

When it boots, I can see the cardmgr load and my
pcmcia cards load OK. It looks like maybe networking
is trying to start too soon or something... I see a
message for DHCP and something about "warning,
couldn't find route for eth0" or similar very early on, then
pcmcia and cardmgr load and shorewall loads.

The other thing is related to the first one... how do I
change the order in which things start up, or how to
write a litte script to run certain commands after
everything is up?

I'm connected to a RoadRunner cable modem through
eth0. eth1 is my private local net.

I think if I could figure out how to rearrange the startup
services I may be able to force dhcp and shorewall to
load at the end.(?)

Oh, there is "One More Thing...", when I get a few hits
on the firewall from the outside, my weblet
shows "Warning" on the firewall. If I get a lot of activity
from the net (portscans or whatever), the weblet
shows "Error" on the firewall. Is that something I should
be worried about? Or do "Warning" and "Error" just
mean "There is a lot of activity out there today"?

Many Thanks for a superb product. I tried gibraltar and
smoothwall GPL, but the Bering LEAF rocks and I'm
sticking with it. You have done a great job.

Thanks again,

 - Todd
