I was looking at making configuration easy. That was the reason to suggest
editing lrpkg.cfg from the LEAF system menu and the backup process saving
this file. However, to make sure root, etc and other mandatory packages are
not removed by mistake causing the system to crash, I'd suggested that the
mandatory packages be loaded by linuxrc. Another option could be to load
declarations from syslinux.cfg and then load those defined in lrpkg.cfg (not
mutually exclusive as is the case today). This way, we still achieve what we
want.

I think the current packaging system is ok. Utilities like apt-get will
check dependencies etc - overhead of which may be high for LEAF. Gurus to
comment. I remember Ray's post on this also suggesting apt-get may be an
overkill.

Hallo Erich

this is always the problem in answering different people at once ;)

I agree
LRP=content can be put in a different file now allready.
If LRP= is empty or not is not important if lrpkg.cfg exists.
The optional configuration files aren't so good documented yet. ( will work
on that :) )

The main reason for my post was to state that
-syslinux.cfg cannot be completely removed. (yet.)
- before we start adapting linuxrc, we should be sure what we want, to
prevent having different versions of this "important file" being used

My suggestion was to leave the system as is but leaving the LRP= string in
syslinux.cfg empty (if necessary at all) and use lrpkg.cfg mandatory for
the package definition.

I believe this is more of a documentation issue than anything else because
this is possible anyway right now.

Concerning the other parameters in syslinux.cfg, e.g. boot media, floppy
switch, serial line Console e.t.c. this was not addressed here and leaves
space for more discussion.
