Erich,
I think you're confusing two aspects of package configuration.
Conversion and parsing of the original package format (deb, rpm, tgz,
etc.) is the responsibility of the packager or build system.

Chad's system is for user configuration of a working LEAF branch.

Am I misunderstanding?

Would you like write access to the src/config directory in cvs?
