I downloaded the current BB code and using the following
CONFIG_FEATURE_IFUPDOWN_IP_BUILTIN=y
CONFIG_FEATURE_IFUPDOWN_EXTERNAL_DHCP=y
cups-proto# busybox --help
BusyBox v1.8.2 (2008-01-05 11:27:29 UTC) multi-call binary

Usage: busybox [function] [arguments]...
or: [function] [arguments]...
BusyBox is a multi-call binary that combines many common Unix
utilities into a single executable. Most people will create a
link to busybox for each function they wish to use and BusyBox
will act like whatever it was invoked as!
Currently defined functions:
[, [[, addgroup, adduser, arp, arping, ash, basename, cat,
chgrp, chmod, chown,
chroot, clear, cp, cut, date, dd, delgroup, deluser, df, diff,
dirname, dmesg,
du, echo, egrep, env, expr, false, find, free, freeramdisk,
getty, grep, gunzip,
gzip, halt, head, hostid, hostname, hwclock, id, ifdown, ifup,
init, insmod,
ip, kill, killall, killall5, last, ln, loadkmap, logger, login,
ls, lsmod,
makedevs, mkdir, mkfifo, mknod, more, mount, mv, nc, netstat,
nslookup, passwd,
pidof, ping, ping6, pivot_root, poweroff, printf, ps, pwd,
reboot, reset,
rm, rmdir, rmmod, run-parts, sed, sh, sha1sum, sleep, sort,
start-stop-daemon,
stty, su, sulogin, sync, sysctl, tail, tar, test, top, touch,
tr, true, tty,
umount, uname, uniq, uptime, wc, which, who, whoami, xargs,
yes, zcat
The interface comes up as expected. However, I found another problem
which may be related.
The ntpq command cannot connect to the ntp daemon which causes the
ntp-wait script to fail (if enabled). The ntp daemon does not write any
ntpstat files, so I assume it is not up neither.
Switching back to the initrd from 3.1b1 solves this problem for me.
It appears that the new busybox release is quite different from the
previous one. It will require extensive testing before we can rely on it.
cheers
Erich
