I have been trying unsuccessfully to add Jacques Nilo's SSHD package to my
working ES2B LRP dual-floppy system. The system is a 486DX with 20meg of
RAM and I am using 1.722 diskettes for both the primary and secondary
floppies. However, I have tried using a standard 1.44 floppy for the
secondary diskette as part of my troubleshooting and the problems don't seem
to change.

I'm using the May 27 version of the OpenSSH.LRP User's Guide.

I copied the download files to a floppy disk and installed it in my second
floppy drive, mounted it and ran the lrpkg commands and then makekey.

On the first run through, I got a "could not create file/directory" error
when running makekey. I manually created the /etc/ssh directory and makekey
then seemed to run normally to completion. I can live with that one.

The next problem occurs when I try to use lrcfg to backup sshd. I get an
error that says "unable to mount...". I thought maybe this was because I
didn't umount the diskette after the makekey step so I tried to umount it
and get the message '/mnt busy '. I then looked at the processes and found
two processes related to the sshd install and makekey and both had a T in
the STAT column (using ps ax). They won't kill and I have not been able to
figure out any way to make the /mnt un-busy.

So I rebooted and tried a different strategy. This time, I copied the SSHD
files to /tmp/sshd, umounted the diskette and then ran the install routine
from there. Exactly the same problems and exactly the same outcome (had to
manually create the /etc/ssh directory and then cannot backup the sshd
stuff). Also, I notice that the install program is NOT installing a
configuration file in /etc/ssh - all that is there are the files placed by
makekey.

Then, just for grins, I tried adding sshd to the package list in
syslinux.cfg and it seems to load normally from the secondary floppy, but I
still can't back it up and I still don't have an SSHD_config file.

Any thoughts?

paul
