A general comment: ident is designed for multi-user systems. Since you
are free to lie to the ident client (irc server), the only thing they can
fairly use that information to do is to inform you of it when they
don't like the behavior of someone on your system. Then you can track
down who was misbehaving. Of course, they are free to do whatever they
want with it, including ignoring it, but using it in their communications
with abusers' sysadmins is the most fair thing to do with it.
oidentd can be configured to respond with a specific id string for each
different masqed ip connection you might make, so it is ideal for a LEAF
firewall.
