Please excuse my ignorance if this is a FAQ:
I am getting script errors/warnings as folows with my modified
Eiger-Stein 1.1 script (I know it's my fault):

Charles pointed out to me that
"This is usually an indication that you've got DOS end-of-lines (CRLF)
instead of unix EOL's (LF only)"
(So that might be a FAQ if anyone wishes to add it to

which I found very helpful).
I had this problem earlier and fixed this :) but I am now sure that
there are OTHER reasons for this message to be generated.
Where exactly does this message come from and what causes it to print
(generically)?
