I FINALLY figured this one out :-)

First, make sure you are running the right terminal.  If you're at the
console, it should say linux, not vt100.  To change it, use

export TERM=linux

However, the usual problem here is that some programs appear to look for
/usr/share/terminfo and LRP puts terminfo into /etc/terminfo (more logical
and historical to my thinking)... so this may fix it:

ln -s /etc/terminfo /usr/share/terminfo
