Gary:
There is a DOS based config program for the 3c509 cards.  Think you can 
find it on Donald Becker's site http://www.scyld.com  or on 3com's site. 
 The file is 3c5x9cfg.exe
What I did was create a DOS bootable disk and copy the 3c5x9cfg.exe file 
to the dos disk.  Then I can boot my LRP machine into DOS and configure 
the nic's, shut down and reboot with the LRP disk and the cards should work.
