One thing that got me a few times is log files filling up memory.

The reason was always the same: my ADSL went down (ISP problem) for
an extended period and the logs got full with connection failures
of ppp.

Is there a way to not log these failures? Service interruptions are
not unheard of here unfortunately (but it is getting better).

I will be satisfied if I only see the messages from the time the
connection goes down, and then when it comes up again. My idea is
that when ppp fails to connect it can enter a mode where it knows
there was a problem and stop logging as long as the connection
state does not change. Does this make sense?
