Currently, on one end I am using an NT4 server (sp6) and on the other
end is a w2k advanced server (sp2), without domains configured on
either.

As stated, standard tcp/ip stuff works fine. Yes, we can ping
everything from either side. We can ftp, ssh, telnet, vnc both ways to
any system.

With lmhosts setup for ip/name on each of these two windoze boxen, we
can ping the w2k by name (note: we do *not* have information about the
_other_ side in dns nor plain hosts files). nbtstat -c shows the w2k
box.

However, from the w2k, we cannot ping by name and nbtstat does not know
anything about the nt4 box.

What do you think?

Dare to fix things before they break . . .

Our capacity for understanding is inversely proportional to how much we
think we know. The more I know, the more I know I don't know . . .
