I get the digest.....

I worked for AT&T in US launching the @Home service. Shawcable never put
speed restrictions on the head end routers as the US based service. I went
out to the @Home SF office once and was involved in the new speed caps
placed on the @Home launches. I did a test in Jefferson City, MO with the
first Motorola DOCSIS Head End gear. Field tests with RCA 105's and GI 2100
Surfboards was average of 7.5 meg down and 7 meg upload. Boy was that a
great test!

Then the other engineer's loaded the @Home router config's and it dropped to
2.5 meg down and 1 meg upload.

FYI Hartford, CT had the first Motorola Proprietary network in place in the
US. That was a fast service. When we swapped to DOCSIS, the users were
really upset about slowing down the network.

Cable service is not available where I live now.

Subject: [Leaf-user] Speed Survey

Tried both US dslreports speed test servers
(http://www.dslreports.com/stest) from up here in Canada (Calgary,
Shawcable) and got the following:

>From Megapath, CA
Test running..........
** Speed 2325(down)/1034(up) kbps **
(At least 46 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

>From Linkline, LA
Test running..........
** Speed 2925(down)/947(up) kbps **
(At least 58 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

P133 64MB RAM DCDv1.01 with brand new Motorola cable modem (old one was
definitely slower).

Quite the variance, highest is only slightly slower than the more local
tucows server that I attained the 3200 download speed from.

I'd be curious to see what other cable modem users are getting and what
their config is.

Paul
