Thanks for the suggestion, but I have the following problems with it.
   1) We are currently integrating content from three locations [1].
      Adding another one will just create more work for us.
   2) Performance considerations when using the phpWiki DBA backend
      mentioned in the document you referenced above.
   3) Security considerations: notice the chmod of the wikidb
      directory to 02777. These files can be deleted by any SF user.
      This is not idle speculation. It has happened in the past, and
      SF no longer provides restoration of lost content [2].

If you have time, please consider making a module of phpWiki for 
phpWebSite. PostNuke already has a phpWiki plug-in [3], so creating a 
module for phpWebSite shouldn't be to difficult.
