I don't think so...if there is it would probably be natsemi.o, but I don't
think that was a part of the 2.2.16 kernel by default...

If you want to build a whole new kernel, yes, you *DO* need patches, which
can be found on my site...see the kernel.readme file for details:
http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/files/kernels/Eiger/

>From a practical standpoint, I don't think any of the patches are affecting
the network driver code, so you should be able to simply compile against a
2.2.16 kernel, or use a pre-compiled driver if one is avaiable for the
2.2.16 kernel somewhere (from NetGear maybe?).

NOTE: Of course the better thing to do might be to simply upgrade to the
2.2.19 kernel from Dachstein. Both the natsemi *AND* the NetGear (fa311.o)
modules are available, and you get a newer version of IPSec to boot. You'll
have to update the ipsec.lrp file on your floppy to the one from Dachstein,
add the ifconfig.lrp and mawk.lrp files, and update all modules in your
modules.lrp to the 2.2.19 versions. It's maybe a bit more work on the
distribution, but you don't have to compile the kernel (and if you *do*
decide you want to, making a Dachstein kernel is easier and better
documented than making an Eiger kernel...see the Dachstein kernel source
directory for details). You also get a much improved version of IPSec, and
a newer kernel...

This is all assuming you don't have a CD-ROM available for your
firewall...if you do, you should try booting the Dachstein CD version. It's
pretty slick...I use it for a small corperate VPN network myself, so that's
kind of what it was designed for...
