Summary: Editing Modules Correctly

Initial Comment:
Hello,
I am a new Linux user and I need some help. I am
using Linux firewall 2.2.19-3-leaf #1 and I am not
sure how to modify/edit the module to reckognize my
network card. I have the system set up and I read the
instructions and downloaded the rtl8139.o module but I
am not exactly sure how to edit the
systems /etc/modules file and insert the module I need
to get the system right. I have went into lrcfg editor
and viewed the text but I am not able to figure out
how to get the rtl8139 in there and what lines I need.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated, as I
said I am new at this and I would like to get the feel
of it so I can start looking at other alternatives to
the "Microsoft Way" of life.

Thanks for your help

Ron Serling

This is covered in the documentation, but you could take the
following steps:

1) take your 'rtl8139.o' file and drop it onto the root of
your floppy boot disk

2) from within the firewall, exit out of the menu, mount the
floppy 'mount -t msdos /dev/fd0u1680 /mnt' and move
'rtl8139.o' to /etc/lib/modules (or something similar; it
should be with the rest of your drivers).

3) 'umount /mnt'

4) type 'lrcfg' to get back to the menu, and edit the
modules file. To get my network driver working (8139too.o),
I just had to add it as a line in the modules file

5) back up your modules package and reboot
