Anyone know a simple way to do this and still eliminate the links when
backing up root?

Under strong consideration...anyone have any pros/cons about implementing
this?

Swapping out login is about as big a jump as I'd like to make...the new
release is intended to primarily be a bug fix / update, rather than a major
new version. I don't think I want to swap out glibc in anything but a major
new release.
