I am using Dachstein to turn a beat-up old computer into a router and everything works fine except that the machine doesn't keep the time. I thought the simplest solution would be to use rdate to set the time at boot and perhaps periodically. And it does.
But a few seconds after I use rdate, the LEAF router itself stops being able to resolve names. The machines on the LAN behind it seem to be OK (i.e., even though their DNS is that router). The error is "Host name lookup failure" although before I get there I sometimes get one or both of these from ping: "sendto: operation not permitted" or "sendto: network unreachable". /log/messages says: [messages like the one below occur >100 times] Jan 1 01:36:02 firewall kernel: Packet log: input DENY eth0 PROTO=17 10.91.240.1:67 255.255.255.255:68 L=353 S=0x80 I=64364 F=0x0000 T=255 (#8) [here is where I executed the rdate, note the date changes] May 20 02:33:12 firewall kernel: Packet log: input DENY eth0 PROTO=17 10.91.240.1:67 255.255.255.255:68 L=333 S=0x80 I=64633 F=0x0000 T=255 (#8) May 20 02:33:12 firewall kernel: Packet log: input DENY eth0 PROTO=17 10.91.240.1:67 255.255.255.255:68 L=333 S=0x80 I=64636 F=0x0000 T=255 (#8) May 20 02:33:21 firewall kernel: eth0: Added filter for 11:11:51:00:10:01 bit 31. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I'm not familiar with ipchains. -Alan Mead __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo!
