I assume "this error message" is "no subnet declaration". If so ...

This is an error message from the DHCP server and indicates a mismatch
between the network settings on what the DHCP thinks is the internal
interface and its own settings for serving addresses. One very common cause
of it is a setup that does not properly configure the NIC for the internal
interface, and that is why you found those references in your search. But
there are other causes too -- you may have reversed the NIC assignments for
external and internal interfaces, but not told the DHCP server about it;
you may simply have changed the network numbering of the internal network
and not told the DHCP server about it; you may even not *have* an internal
interface (I can't be sure from what you wrote, particularly the phrase
"both card" -- is this a typo for "both cards"? -- that your system even
has two NICs in it). You may not even be using DHCP on your LAN, in which
case you can safely ignore this message (though changing your LEAF settings
to turn the DHCP server off would be tidier).

I hope this general guidance is enough to help you track down the problem.
If not, please post a followup with the usual system settings (see the link
at the bottom of this message for an explanation of what they are).

The LEAF FAQ at Sourceforge (easy to find from leaf.sourceforge.net) has a
series of ping-failure entries, and you'd do best first to read them. If
they don't give you enough help, please post a more specific trouble report
than "having trouble getting the external address to ping" -- we'd need to
be the Psychic Hotline to diagnose your problem based on that general a
description.
