Have you added tulip.o to /lib/modules (and backed-up modules.lrp of
course) in addition to just uncommenting the entry in /etc/modules ?
The default Bering floppy doesn't have tulip.o, you'll need to get it
from:
 
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/bering/latest/modules/drivers/net/tulip/
